| Warren was born in Wausau, Wisconsin in 1938. By 1943 he had moved to New York City and had begun playing classical music. He continued studying and concertizing all through his childhood, and by 1957 he had opted to leave music and was studying chemistry and physics at the Universtiy of Chicago. It was only then, in the late fifties, that he discovered modern jazz, becoming entranced by the great music of artists such as Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, George Shearing and Wynton Kelly as they passed through Chicago. Warren immediately switched his interests back to the pursuit of a career in music, soon joining the jazz sextet of saxophonist Paul Winter in order to tour professionally. (continued ֙) |
