Many of my childhood memories are suffused with the sense of indescribable surrounding beauty, of teeming meadows and thick, deep woods on the banks of the crystal-clear waters of the river Ros. It is an area near Kiev through which the river Ros flows before it joins the mighty Dnepr. This is where the history of Russia begins; this is where the name Rossiya comes from.
