Dorian DiscoveryDIS-80152 MUSIC of the MODES
The composers of the period we describe as the Renaissance would be surprised to learn that their works have gained a popular audience in our time, five centuries after they were written. One generation was the average useful life of most music until the late 15th century. The interest sustained for certain Renaissance composers during our own century has far outlasted that norm. Johannes Ockeghem was born in East Flanders and was trained in the North, gaining musical and political positions in France, and eventually becoming the "premier chapelain" to the royal French court under Charles VII, Louis XI and Charles VIII, a career of some 40 years. - Peter Urquhart
