THATSUM RAG!
THE NEW COLUMBIAN BRASS BAND GEORGE FOREMAN, CONDUCTOR

Recent revivals of Scott Joplin's piano rags have led many to believe that the ragtime music of the late 1800's and early 1900's was mostly performed on piano. In fact, the ragtime band was a vital element in the developement of this "rag ged time" (hence ragtime) syncopated style of music. Wildly popular throughout the early 1900's in America, it moved from the nickelodeon and saloon to more "legitimate performances" in theatres, park concerts and ballrooms. The infectious rhythm of this uniquely American sound formed the basis of many popular music styles and became America's first widely known indigenous music.
