Dorian RecordingsDOR-93199of Latin America Camerata Renacentista de Caracas Isabel Palacios, Director
Since its founding, the Camerata de Caracas has maintained a special interest in the study and dissemination of Latin Amerca's musical history. Latin-American Baroque has been the subject of investigation by many outstanding scholars, including Octavio Paz, Alejo Carpentier, Lezama Lima and Ulsar Pietri, and yet this repertoire retains an enigmatic and fascinating quality. It is intriguing to learn of the lives of composers and to restore our knowledge of them: missionaries and other Europeans who arrived and settled in the New World, learned from it, produced their best works and then faded from view; or those born in South America who adapted ecclesiastical music to the climate, colors and textures of this New World, generating dialects, rhythms, symbols and modes of expression inconceivable outside the rich and varied millieu of the American peoples.
