CHANSON | THE SPACE IN BETWEEN
BARB JUNGR

AKD129
This CD has been a labour of love. it is about my turning back to my European roots. Both of my parents came to Britain from Germany and Czechoslovakia after the war and yet all of my musical career has been built on singing American musical genres. Blues, gospel, jazz. Then I found Brel and a door opened. I have several people to thank for that and they are nearly all of them involved in this project. Rolob Johnson and Des De Moor have been constantly and completely supportive of my growing love for this repertoire. And there's so much more to discover.
The players on this CD are
RUSSELL CHURNEY piano
A co-writer and a font of knowledge, RusselI also writes music for films. A friend and my longstanding accompanist, he shows in his performances, whether live or recorded, that the true art of accompaniment is alive.
JULIE WALKINGTON double bass
A terrific and dedicated jazz player and a Goddess of the double bass, I aIways feel safe when Julie is on stage. She has a sensitivity and feel that puts me and the music at ease. And she can rock the house.
KIM BURTON accordion, piano, kaval
A specialist in the music of the Former Yugoslavia, Kim has such a hell of a CV and reputation that I was thrilled she wanted to work on this project. She has brought magic to the songs she arranged.
SIMON WALLACE piano
A writer and arranger of television music and composer with lyricist and poet Fran Landesman. Simon's arrangements of the Porter and Harburg were so right I couldn't believe it. He introduced me to Fran and her work for which I shall always be grateful and he plays like a demon.
JAMES TOMALIN samples
A film composer and arranger, James is a co-writer and wonderful musician with a real grasp of what a song needs. A little bit of sparkle here, some magic there. And a lovely man.
ROLF WILSON violin
A wonderful soloist. I was thrilled to have Rolf work on the CD and he came in with heavy flu to do the session and played like an angel. Bless him.
KEVIN HATHWAY percussion
He was off to tour the globe with his orchestra after the session. But before he left Kevin added some beautiful sounds to the tracks.
CALUM MALCOLM
A well kept Edinburgh secret, a brilliant producer, calm, kind and with ears of gold, Calum recorded and mixed the CD. And he has a penchant for nifty cars!
ROBB JOHNSON
Founder of Irregular Records, Robb is a wonderful songwriter, performer and friend. His translation of Les Marquises is heartbreaking.
DES DE MOOR
Des is amazing. Creator of Pirate Jenny's Cabaret, London's European artistes are indebted to him. The translations he did and the care he gave to this work are most precious to me.
